Memorial Day Weekend...Five Months Late!

After waiting so long this year for sunshine and warm breezes we were treated to some PERFECT weather for our Memorial Day weekend.  I'm getting a little nostalgic right now thinking about that perfect weather, since winter seems to be arriving a little early this year. (23 degrees tomorrow and 1"-3" of snow?  Say it ain't so!)

We had a wonderful, low key weekend.  Friday night Logan and Mason hopped on their bikes while Jeremy, Charlotte and I walked behind.  I didn't take any pictures, but it was so nice!  Saturday morning the boys had soccer.
So nice to enjoy the games in the sunshine!

Saturday night our good friends the Engels invited us over for a movie and campfire.  We get to enjoy both at once since they use a projector to show the movie outside.  So fun!

Little Miss was a little crabby!

We took three family pics...Logan had a mouth full of popcorn in each one!

Sunday morning we had a Cub Scout event.  Our Pack and the local Girl Scout Troop meet with the American Legion members to march from the Legion Hall to the town cemetery to place flags on the Veterans graves and for a Memorial service.  This is a great opportunity for us to demonstrate to our boys what this holiday stands for.  It's not about having a long weekend or kicking off summer, but about honoring the sacrifices others have made for the freedoms we enjoy.
This little frog hopped into our morning.

Miss Charli was rockin' the curls and red white and blue!

Our boys as they started the march to the cemetery.

Placing the flags that honor our vets.

Love a man in
uniform!

After we were done with the scouts, we went to visit my grandparents graves.  My grandfather served in WWII, and taking the boys there is something I've always wanted to do once they were old enough.  It was the right year to do it, since somehow my grandfathers grave had no flag.  We had some small handheld flags in the car that I had used to decorate the stroller for the march, so we were able to use one for my grandpa.

Monday we took it easy, and made our first trip of the season to the local zoo.  Our zoo might be small, but the kids enjoy it just the same.

It's easy to get caught up in the vacation-y feel of Memorial day weekend, but I want my family to remember to be thankful.  Thankful for the sacrifices that others have made so that we can go for bike rides, play soccer games, and go to the zoo in safety and peace!
